Zakaria Pintoo, former Captain of Shadhin Bangla Football Team, dies at 81

Zakaria Pintoo, the beloved former captain of the Shadhin Bangla football team, has passed away at the age of 81. He died today in a hospital in Dhaka after struggling with several health issues for a long time.

Pintoo, who also made history as the first captain of the Bangladesh national football team, had been battling heart, kidney, and liver problems. 

He was admitted to Ibn Sina Hospital yesterday when his condition became critical. Sadly, he passed away around 11:45 AM in the hospital‍‍`s Intensive Care Unit.

He leaves behind his son and three daughters. 

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) expressed deep sorrow over his death, calling him an important figure in both the country‍‍`s football history and its independence. 

The BFF paid tribute to Pintoo’s legacy and offered prayers for his soul to rest in peace.

Born in Naogaon in 1943, Pintoo had a remarkable career. 

He played for both the Pakistan national football team and the East Pakistan football team, often serving as captain. 

He was recognized for his dedication to the sport and was honored with the Independence Award in 1995 and the National Sports Award in 1978.
