Caretaker Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has formally handed over the deed of a three-katha plot in Purbachal to Mahir Sarowar Megh, the son of slain journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
The deed was handed over on Thursday afternoon at the state guesthouse Jamuna.
Journalist Sagar Sarowar had applied for the plot in 2004 and was allocated the land in 2005.
Although he completed the full payment in 2009, the previous Awami League government never transferred possession of the plot to his family.
Currently, the legal heirs of the property are Sagar Sarowar’s mother, Saleha Monir, and his son, Mahir Sarowar Megh.
During the handover, the Chief Adviser inquired about the progress of the long-pending investigation into the Sagar-Runi murder case.
He remarked that prolonged delays in investigations create public frustration and erode trust in the justice system. He instructed the authorities concerned to expedite the probe.
Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, who was also present, noted that the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has reported that many crucial pieces of evidence were lost due to the prolonged delays in the case.
At the event, Megh presented the Chief Adviser with a self-designed jersey and bag.
Other attendees included Advisers Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Farida Akhter, and Syeda Rizwana Hasan; Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam; and Meherun Runi’s brother, Nowazesh Alam Roman.
