At least 201 people have been killed and 747 others injured in attacks across Iran, the Iranian Red Crescent Society said, as fighting escalated following strikes by the United States and Israel.
A spokesperson for the humanitarian organisation told Mehr News Agency that the strikes have affected 24 provinces.
More than 220 Red Crescent rescue teams have been deployed, with emergency operations continuing in multiple locations.
The update came as US President Donald Trump said Washington had begun “major combat operations” in Iran, shortly after Israel announced missile strikes on Iranian targets.
Iranian media also reported explosions in Tehran and other cities, including a deadly strike on a school in the south that reportedly killed more than 80 people.
Iran has since launched retaliatory attacks against Israeli and US-linked targets across the Middle East, including in Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Iraq, according to Al Jazeera.
Several countries in the region have since closed their airspace amid security concerns.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the US action would not benefit Americans or regional stability.
He insisted Tehran had sought a diplomatic solution and accused Washington of acting to serve Israeli interests.
“This war is being imposed on Iran and on the region,” Baghaei said, adding that Iran maintains friendly relations with neighbouring countries and does not seek wider conflict.
