Bangladesh’s national women’s football team has made a historic leap in the latest FIFA rankings, moving up 24 positions following an impressive performance in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers held in Myanmar.
According to the FIFA women`s rankings published today, Bangladesh has climbed to the 104th position with a rating of 1179.87 points — an increase of +80.51 points. This marks the biggest leap by any team in the latest update, both in terms of ranking and rating points.
Before their tour of Myanmar in June, Bangladesh was ranked 128th. During the qualifiers, the team stunned higher-ranked opponents, defeating Bahrain (ranked 36 places above) on June 29 and Myanmar (ranked 73 places ahead) on July 2.
These victories not only earned Bangladesh a spot in the final round of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup for the first time in history but also propelled them significantly up the rankings.
Previously, the Bangladesh women`s team had reached the 100th spot in the FIFA rankings twice — in December 2013 and December 2017.
Meanwhile, Bahrain dropped 19 places to 111th after their loss to Bangladesh, and Myanmar slipped one position to 56th.
There have also been changes at the top of the women`s rankings. Spain, runners-up in the recent UEFA Women’s Euro, has overtaken the USA to claim the top spot.
The United States now sits second, while Sweden has moved up three places to third. Brazil, winners of the Copa América Femenina, has fallen from fourth to seventh. Argentina ranks 30th in the latest update.
