Iran and the United States are set to launch technical-level discussions in Switzerland on Sunday as efforts continue to implement a recently signed interim agreement aimed at easing regional tensions and advancing negotiations over Tehran‍‍`s nuclear programme.

The talks will take place in Bürgenstock with the participation of Qatari mediators, according to Pakistani officials involved in the diplomatic process.

Senior American representatives have already arrived in Switzerland to work on the technical framework of the negotiations.

US Vice President JD Vance said discussions are focusing on practical issues related to the implementation of the agreement and future steps concerning Iran‍‍`s nuclear activities.

Vance indicated that he is expected to join the negotiations in the coming days, while acknowledging the complexity of the ongoing diplomatic efforts.

The planned talks come against the backdrop of renewed uncertainty surrounding the agreement, as tensions remain high over continuing Israeli military operations in Lebanon.

Earlier on Saturday, Iran‍‍`s military leadership accused Washington of failing to uphold its commitments and announced new restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world‍‍`s most important energy shipping routes.

Iranian officials also warned that additional measures could follow if regional hostilities continue.

Despite the sharp rhetoric, Tehran later confirmed that its negotiating team was travelling to Switzerland to continue discussions with the United States.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stressed that meaningful progress would depend on the implementation of commitments already outlined in the interim accord.

He said future negotiations on a comprehensive agreement would only move forward if both sides fulfilled their obligations.

According to Iranian officials, the current round of talks will focus largely on assessing compliance with the memorandum of understanding reached earlier this week.

The interim agreement had initially raised hopes of broader diplomatic progress by easing tensions and reopening key trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.

However, unresolved disputes and the ongoing conflict in Lebanon continue to pose significant challenges to the fragile understanding between Washington and Tehran.

Diplomats involved in the process say the upcoming negotiations will be crucial in determining whether the two sides can maintain momentum toward a more comprehensive and lasting agreement.
