At least seven people were killed and several others injured in two consecutive roadside bomb explosions in Pakistan‍‍`s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, local police said.

The first blast targeted a passenger vehicle in Bannu district, where a remotely detonated improvised explosive device (IED) struck a pickup truck carrying civilians.

According to police officials, the explosion caused multiple casualties and left several passengers wounded.

As victims were being rushed to hospital for treatment, a second roadside bomb exploded near a vehicle transporting the injured, further increasing the death toll and causing additional injuries.

Police officer Yasir Afridi said at least three people were wounded in the attacks, while emergency responders and security personnel were deployed to the scene immediately after the explosions.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine who was behind the attacks and whether the two blasts were coordinated.

No group had claimed responsibility for the bombings as of Saturday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which borders Afghanistan, has witnessed a rise in militant violence in recent years, with security forces and civilians frequently targeted in bombings and armed attacks.

Security has been tightened in the area as investigators work to identify those responsible for the deadly incident.
