Opposition Leader and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has accused the government of attempting to consolidate power by appointing its supporters to influential positions across various state institutions.

Speaking at a workers‍‍` rally in Narayanganj on Friday, the Jamaat chief alleged that party loyalists are being placed in important roles within banks, universities and local government bodies, a move he claimed reflects an effort to establish a one-party system.

He warned that such an approach would not be accepted by the country‍‍`s people and urged the government to avoid actions that could undermine political pluralism.

Addressing the gathering at the city‍‍`s Central Eidgah Ground, Dr Shafiqur also drew comparisons with the previous Awami League administration, alleging that opposition parties had often been marginalized and criticized in Parliament.

According to him, the current government is similarly attempting to label and target political opponents, but he argued that the public is not being influenced by those efforts.

The Jamaat leader urged the authorities to pay attention to public sentiment, particularly among younger voters, and called on the government not to repeat what he described as the mistakes of past administrations.

The rally was chaired by Narayanganj city Jamaat Ameer Maulana Abdul Jabbar and attended by several senior party leaders.

Among those who addressed the programme were Jamaat central executive council member Saiful Alam Khan, Dhaka South unit Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, and Islami Chhatra Shibir President Nurul Islam Saddam.

The event formed part of the party‍‍`s ongoing political activities ahead of the country‍‍`s evolving political landscape.
