Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon have heightened uncertainty surrounding a recently signed agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at ending months of regional conflict.

Israeli forces launched overnight air and ground attacks across parts of southern Lebanon, according to military officials, while Hezbollah reported fierce fighting in several areas.

The escalation came just days after Washington and Tehran announced a deal calling for an immediate halt to hostilities across the region.

Lebanon‍‍`s state news agency reported that at least 16 people were killed in the latest airstrikes. Israeli authorities said military operations were continuing, though no further details were immediately released.

The renewed violence has cast doubt on efforts to stabilize the region under the Iran-US agreement, which specifically includes a commitment to halt military activities in Lebanon and respect the country‍‍`s sovereignty.

Israeli Prime Minister  has maintained that Israeli troops will remain in Lebanon until security threats linked to Hezbollah are fully addressed.

The latest developments also disrupted diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a broader and more permanent settlement. Planned talks between Washington and Tehran in Switzerland were postponed, with no new date immediately announced.

US Vice President , who was expected to participate in the negotiations, delayed his visit.

The White House attributed the change to logistical issues, although regional media reports suggested the ongoing military situation in Lebanon may have contributed to the postponement.

The Iran-US agreement was signed earlier this week during high-level discussions attended by world leaders, including .

The accord took effect immediately and was widely viewed as an important step toward reducing tensions across the Middle East.

Despite the diplomatic breakthrough, the latest fighting in Lebanon has underscored the fragile nature of the ceasefire efforts and highlighted the challenges facing negotiators as they seek a lasting solution to the conflict.

Regional observers warn that continued military operations could complicate future talks and test the durability of the newly established agreement.
