Five more children have died across the country in the past 24 hours (from 8am June 17 to 8am June 18) from measles and measles-like symptoms, while 1,148 new cases of measles and measles-like symptoms were reported during the same period.
The information was disclosed in the latest bulletin from the Directorate General of Health Services on Thursday.
According to the report, among the five deaths, two occurred in the Sylhet division, while one death each was reported in Dhaka, Chattogram and Khulna divisions.
So far, the total number of deaths linked to measles symptoms and confirmed cases has reached 666. Of these, 573 were children who showed measles-like symptoms, while 93 were confirmed measles-related deaths.
During the same 24-hour period, 907 suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals. Of them, 331 were in Dhaka division, 175 in Chattogram, and 135 in Barishal.
Meanwhile, 815 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals within the same period.
According to health authorities, the first measles case in the country was identified on March 15. Over the past 95 days, a total of 89,904 people have shown measles symptoms. Of them, 74,184 were hospitalized, while confirmed cases have reached 10,773. A total of 70,503 patients have recovered and been discharged during this period.
