Bangladesh`s gymnasts have delivered one of the country`s best-ever performances at the Asian Gymnastics Championships, setting multiple national milestones at the ongoing competition in Jinjiang, China.
Competing against some of Asia`s strongest gymnastics nations, including Japan, China, South Korea and Qatar, the Bangladeshi team produced impressive results in both the senior and junior categories.
The biggest breakthrough came in the junior division, where Uting Wang Marma secured a place in the Vault final after an outstanding qualification performance.
He scored 12.850 points to finish among the leading competitors in a field of 53 gymnasts and will now compete for a medal in the final.
Bangladesh also celebrated a landmark achievement in the senior category through Rajib Chakma, who delivered the country`s best-ever result at the Asian Gymnastics Championships.
Rajib scored 13.366 points in the Vault event to finish ninth among 67 competitors.
His performance earned him the position of first reserve for the final, keeping alive his chance of competing should any qualified athlete withdraw.
The result also secured Rajib direct qualification for the upcoming Asian Games in Japan, marking another major milestone for Bangladesh gymnastics on the continental stage.
The championship, being held from June 14 to 21, has brought together 120 male gymnasts from 22 Asian countries.
The competition features 67 senior and 53 junior athletes across 16 events.
Bangladesh is participating with a 10-member squad, comprising five senior and five junior gymnasts.
Officials and supporters have hailed the performances as a significant step forward for the sport in Bangladesh, highlighting the growing potential of the country`s gymnasts to compete at the highest level in Asia.
With Uting Wang Marma set to contest the Vault final and Rajib Chakma already securing Asian Games qualification, the tournament has become a memorable chapter in Bangladesh gymnastics history.
