Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon today warned of taking stern action if any irregularity is found in distribution of family cards.
“There is no room for any broker or middleman in the distribution of family cards. If the allegations of irregularities are proved, strict action will be taken against those involved,” he told a tree plantation programme here.
The minister said no middleman or broker can be kept in the distribution of family cards.
Swapon earlier inaugurated the tree plantation programme on both banks of the Swanirbhar Canal, where a canal-digging programme was once launched by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, at Kutubpur in Gournadi this morning.
Later, he addressed a meeting there as the chief guest with Krishak Dal Member Secretary Abul Kalam Azad in the chair.
Barishal District BNP General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Khan Mukul, Gournadi Upazila BNP Convener Bir Muktijoddha Syed Sarwar Alam, Gournadi Upazila BNP Member Secretary Sharif Zahir Sajjad Hannan, Municipal Unit Convener Md Zakir Hossain Sharif, acting Member Secretary Shafiqur Rahman Sharif Swapan, Upazila BNP Senior Joint Convener Badiuzzaman Mintu and District Jubo Dal leader Syed Alam Khan Sentu were present.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister called upon all to come forward to protect the environment through tree plantation.
Later, the guests planted saplings of different species on both banks of the canal.
Local BNP leaders and activists also participated in the programme.
