The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has reduced gold prices in the domestic market after two consecutive price hikes, lowering the price of 22-karat gold by Tk 3,324 per bhori.
Under the new pricing, the VAT-inclusive price of 22-karat gold has been set at Tk 220,858 per bhori (11.664 grams).
BAJUS announced the revision in a statement on Friday morning, saying the new prices took effect from 10:00 a.m. the same day.
According to the statement, the price adjustment was made following a decline in the local market price of pure gold (acid-tested gold). Taking the overall market situation into account, BAJUS revised the prices of all categories of gold.
Under the new rates, the price of 21-karat gold has been set at Tk 210,943 per bhori, while 18-karat gold will cost Tk 181,200 per bhori. Gold produced using the traditional method has been priced at Tk 148,016 per bhori.
BAJUS said the revised prices will remain effective at all jewellery stores across the country until further notice. However, making charges will continue to vary depending on the design of the jewellery.
The association also said VAT is already included in the retail prices of both gold and silver jewellery. As a result, jewellers are not allowed to charge customers VAT separately. Existing BAJUS rules regarding the exchange and purchase of jewellery—excluding specified VAT, labour charges and the value of gemstones—will remain unchanged.
Previously, on July 22, BAJUS had raised the price of 22-karat gold by Tk 2,741 per bhori, taking the VAT-inclusive price to Tk 224,182 per bhori.
Alongside gold, BAJUS also reduced silver prices. Under the new rates, the price of 22-karat silver has been lowered by Tk 175 per bhori to Tk 4,607. The prices of 21-karat, 18-karat and traditional silver have been set at Tk 4,374, Tk 3,791 and Tk 2,858 per bhori, respectively.
