Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmad began his official duties at Bangabhaban on Tuesday, entering the presidential palace for the first time after assuming office.
He arrived at Bangabhaban at around 11:00am and formally started his responsibilities.
Upon his arrival, a mounted police unit welcomed him. Later, the President’s Guard Regiment (PGR) presented him with a guard of honour in accordance with state protocol.
After receiving the guard of honour, the acting president went to his office, where he was introduced to senior officials of Bangabhaban. The President’s Military Secretary and Secretary of the Public Division briefed him on various activities of Bangabhaban.
He later inspected different facilities and important areas of the presidential palace.
Sources said this was Hafiz Uddin Ahmad’s first official working day after assuming charge as acting president. With the beginning of official activities at Bangabhaban, his formal work at the Office of the President commenced.
Earlier, on July 24, President Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned, following which Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, assumed the responsibilities of acting president in accordance with the Constitution.
After taking office, he paid tribute on Sunday morning at the National Memorial in Savar to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Great Liberation War. He also signed the visitors’ book at the memorial, leaving a message. The chiefs of the armed forces and senior military and civilian officials were present at the event.
Later, after returning to the capital, he paid tribute at the graves of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
