The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) on Tuesday lowered gold prices just a day after increasing them, reducing the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,216 per bhori.
According to a Bajus notice issued in the morning, the new price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 2,20,858 per bhori, including VAT. The revised rates took effect from 10:00am.
Prices of other categories of gold were also reduced.
The rate of 21-carat gold fell by Tk 2,100 to Tk 2,10,943 per bhori, while 18-carat gold dropped by Tk 1,750 to Tk 1,81,200 per bhori.
Traditional (Sanatan) gold was reduced by Tk 1,458, bringing its price to Tk 1,48,016 per bhori.
Bajus said the updated prices will remain in effect at jewellery stores until further notice.
However, making charges will continue to vary depending on the design of the jewellery.
The association also clarified that customers cannot be charged VAT separately, as it is already included in the selling price of gold and silver ornaments.
Existing rules regarding making charges, VAT and stone deductions for the purchase and exchange of jewellery remain unchanged
Silver prices were also revised downward.
The price of 22-carat silver ornaments was reduced by Tk 59 to Tk 4,607 per bhori.
The price of 21-carat silver fell by Tk 175 to Tk 4,374 per bhori, while 18-carat silver declined by Tk 116 to Tk 3,791 per bhori.
Traditional silver also dropped by Tk 116 to Tk 2,858 per bhori.
On Monday, Bajus had increased the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,216 per bhori, setting it at Tk 2,23,074, including VAT.
