High-level BSF delegation to attend 56th border conference in Dhaka

A high-level delegation from India’s Border Security Force (BSF) is set to arrive in Dhaka to participate in the 56th Border Conference between Bangladesh and India.

The conference will be held from August 25 to 28 at the headquarters of the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) in Pilkhana, Dhaka.

The Indian Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed the visit in a statement on Saturday (August 23) and highlighted the key issues to be discussed during the meeting between the two countries’ border forces.

The agenda includes preventing cross-border crimes, constructing a continuous barbed-wire fence along the border, taking action against anti-India groups based in Bangladesh, addressing various issues related to border infrastructure, implementing the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP), and enhancing mutual trust and confidence.

The first official meeting between Bangladesh and India’s border forces took place on December 2, 1975, in Kolkata. The then BDR (now BGB) delegation was led by Major General Kazi Golam Dastgir, while the BSF delegation was headed by its former Director General Ashwini Kumar.

The most recent BGB-BSF meeting was held from February 17 to 20 in New Delhi.

Notably, this visit marks the first time a BSF delegation is coming to Dhaka following the departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the fall of her government on August 5, 2024, amid the student-led public uprising.
