A Jubo Dal leader was brutally hacked to death at a house near 18 Mile Bazar in Dumuria upazila of Khulna district early Saturday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Shamim Hossain, 33, joint convener of the Islamkati union unit of Jubo Dal in Tala upazila, Satkhira district. He was the son of Abdul Gaffar Sheikh of Uthli village in Tala upazila.
Masud Rana, officer-in-charge of Dumuria Police Station, said a group of assailants attacked Shamim at his home, slitting his throat. The motive behind the killing is yet to be determined.
Shamim’s family discovered his body lying in a pool of blood and immediately alerted the police. The body was recovered in the morning and sent to Khulna Medical College and Hospital morgue.
Saidur Rahman, senior joint convener of Tala upazila unit Jubo Dal, described the incident as a planned killing and called on the authorities to identify the perpetrators.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
