Allegations against Taskin withdrawn following family settlement

The assault allegation against national team pacer Taskin Ahmed by his childhood friend Sifat-ur-Rahman Saurav has been withdrawn following a family-level settlement, bringing an apparent end to the recent social media controversy surrounding the case.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday night, Saurav confirmed that the matter had been resolved through discussions between the two families and that he had officially withdrawn the complaint.

"He is, of course, my childhood friend. He still has a lot to contribute to the Bangladesh team. I wish him well. As a cricketer, I know Taskin Ahmed. I’m just a bit traumatised now and need some time," Saurav told reporters, indicating that the issue had left him emotionally unsettled despite the resolution.

Saurav had filed an assault complaint against Taskin on Monday with the Mirpur Model Police Station.

In response, Taskin denied the allegations and told Bangla Tribune, “My friend Rosi was attacked by them. I called the Mohammadpur Police Station officer-in-charge. The police searched for them there. That’s why they filed a GD against me. Saurav’s aunt even called my father to complain. They recorded some conversations. My father wasn’t even aware of the incident at first. After learning about it, he made a few comments and said, ‘They’re childhood friends, they should stay close.’ Honestly, I haven’t been spending time with them lately, which probably upset him.”

When asked by reporters what had led the matter to reach the police station, Saurav implied that Taskin was at fault but reiterated that the situation had been resolved.

“It’s all been settled through discussions between both families. There were arguments between friends, and that’s where the problem began. I hadn’t previously apologised or withdrawn the complaint, but today we’ve settled the matter together as families,” he said.

Taskin’s other friend, Ishtiak Ahmed Hridoy, told the press, “If we or my friend had done anything wrong, then his (Taskin’s) father wouldn’t have come forward to give a written undertaking. The complaint was withdrawn after he did.”

Meanwhile, Saurav’s aunt, Jhuma Khan, explained, “We had asked for 48 hours. Today, Taskin’s side came, gave us time, and provided a written assurance. The matter was resolved within the family. Our primary concern was Saurav’s safety and ensuring that such incidents don’t happen again in the future.”
