At least 10-12 more officials from the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, well-known as the PSC, have been implicated in the leaking of question papers for various government job exams, including the prestigious Bangladesh Cadre Service (BCS), according to confessions from six individuals arrested in connection with the case.
Among the suspects are an assistant director-level official, a member, and four other senior personnel within the commission. The arrested individuals include PSC Office Assistant Khalilur Rahman, former commission driver Syed Abed Ali, Office Assistant (Dispatch Rider) Sajedul Islam, and traders Sakhawat Hossain and Sayem Hossain, along with Liton Sarker. They provided confessional statements to Dhaka courts on Tuesday following their arrest in a case filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Khalilur Rahman admitted to leaking questions from the 33rd BCS exam to ten candidates, three of whom are currently serving in various cadres. He disclosed that six candidates passed the written test, but only three succeeded in the viva voce interview. Khalilur also confessed to facilitating the recruitment of several hundred employees, including assistant upazila education officers and railway personnel.
Furthermore, Khalilur implicated a medical technologist from Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College named Niamul in assisting him multiple times with question paper leaks. The CID is now investigating the leads provided by Khalilur.
In response to these developments, the PSC has undertaken measures to identify other suspected officials against whom allegations of question paper leaks have been made in the past. Many of these individuals are already under scrutiny by law enforcement agencies, according to sources from both the PSC and the CID.
PSC Chairman Md Sohorab Hossain emphasized the commission`s strong stance against question leakage, stating, "The PSC is conducting inquiries into other officials involved in these incidents of question leaks."
Meanwhile, the PSC has requested the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate and take action against five PSC officials and employees who were arrested in connection with allegations of forgery and question leaks during the sub-assistant engineer recruitment examination for Bangladesh Railway on July 5.
