ARSA commander’s brother arrested in Cox’s Bazar

The Armed Police Battalion (APBN) has claimed to have arrested the brother of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) commander Ata Ullah during a raid conducted to rescue an abducted Rohingya.

The detainee was identified as Md. Shah Ali.

Ata Ullah is one of the suspects in several murder cases including killing Rohingya leader Muhibulla last year.

ARSA is supposed to pose a big threat in Rohingya shelter camps at this moment.

Shah Ali was arrested from a hideout at Madhurchhora shelter camp in Ukhia of Cox’s Bazar. A firearm and one lakh cash were recovered from him.

“Miscreants abducted a Rohingya on Saturday afternoon. Receiving the information, the APBN launched an operation to rescue him. We traced the hideout where the abducted person was kept through drone,” APBN commander and police super Naimul Haque told the media.

Naimul said, multiple APBN teams led by him conducted drives around the Noukarmath shelter camps early Sunday. The abducted Rohingya was rescued from the hideout. Shah Ali was arrested during the raid.

“We are interrogating Shah Ali to know whether or not he had any connection with six Rohingya murders along with that of Rohingya leader Muhibullah,” Naimul continued.
