Finally, after 75 hours, the fire in the capital's Bangabazar market has been completely extinguished. The fire service and civil defense members said that it was possible to extinguish the fire completely.
Fire service media wing official Shahjahan Shikder said that the extinguishing operation was declared completed at 9:30 am on Friday (April, 7).
After extinguishing the fire, the members of the fire service declared the extinguishing operation completed and left the accident site. However, even after this, smoke was seen rising from some places of the incident.
An official of the fire service said, "Now there is no fire anywhere. So we are packing up our scattered belongings. Smoke is rising, but there is no chance of a new fire. Even if fire catches somewhere, we will come and put it out."
A huge fire incident occurred in Bangabazar on last Tuesday at 6.10 am. At around 8 am, 41 units of the fire service went to the scene. Seven other units later joined the firefighting operations. The fire was extinguished at 12:36 PM after six and a half hours of efforts. But the fire has not been completely extinguished in the last three days.
A total of seven markets in Bangabazar area were burnt in this fire. Of these, four are completely burnt and three are partially burnt. The markets are - Banga Islamia Market, Banga Homeo Complex, Bangabazar Market, Anexco Tower, Mahanagar Shopping Complex, Adarsha Market and Gulistan Market.
