Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has announced that the Bangladesh Army will take action against former army chief General Aziz Ahmed.
"We need to catch the loan defaulters, and I want to take action," said the finance minister on Sunday while speaking to journalists at his office.
When asked if he could take action against the powerful loan defaulters, the minister responded, "Let`s see if it can be done." He added, "You can see that action is being taken against the former police chief. Was he not powerful?"
The finance minister expressed government support for the court`s actions against former police chief Benazir Ahmed.
In response to a journalist`s question about why the government hasn`t taken any action against the former army chief, the finance minister stated, "The government hasn`t done anything which means the army will."
The finance minister noted that even though Aziz Ahmed is no longer in the army, the military can still take action against him post-retirement.
