Some 50,000 passengers traveled from Dhaka to their hometowns or villages in 41 routes till Tuesday night from afternoon to enjoy the Eid holidays with their loved ones, claimed Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).
As the day went on, the gathering became larger and larger, and launches headed for Bhola, Hatia, Chandpur, Barguna, and Patuakhali were leaving the terminal with a full of passengers.
However, passengers for the Dhaka-Barisal route were comparatively lower.
"There have been a large number of travelers on Tuesday. An early fill-up is occurring for the launches," said Ashikur Rahman, the MV Awlad's supervisor.
He added that after the garments and textile manufacturing concerns were shut down, there wouldn't be somewhere to stand at the terminal.
As most offices were closed on Tuesday for Eid, BIWTA official Kabir Hossain said there was a huge pressure in the terminal.
