In a sweeping special operation conducted across Bangladesh, law enforcement authorities arrested 1,833 individuals in a single day, according to an official police briefing held on Wednesday.
Among the detainees, 1,191 were wanted in connection with various outstanding arrest warrants, while the remaining 642 were apprehended for involvement in other criminal activities.
The coordinated operation took place on Tuesday, June 24, spanning the capital Dhaka and multiple regions across the country. During the raids, law enforcement officers also seized a significant cache of weapons and ammunition. The recovered items include—3 pistols, 2 single-barrel guns, 4 homemade pipe guns, 1 green-colored cartridge, 2 magazines, 6 bullets, 6 rounds of .303 rifle ammunition, 8 rounds of 12-bore cartridges, 2 machetes, 1 sharp sword, 1 iron pipe, 5 large knives (ramda), 1 dagger.
The police stated that the crackdown was part of an ongoing special campaign aimed at curbing criminal activities and restoring public safety nationwide.
Authorities have confirmed that legal proceedings are underway against the arrested individuals and that further operations will continue to ensure law and order across the country.
