The decision to remove the Freedom Fighter Quota from MBBS admission exams was made by the state and not the Health Ministry, clarified Professor Dr. Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser.

He made this statement on Monday, January 20, during a media briefing after an event at a hotel in Dhaka.

Dr. Rahman said,

"You already know that the court ruling following the movement against the quota system brought a significant change, where the term ‍‍`children‍‍` was used instead of ‍‍`grandchildren‍‍` for future generations. This quota matter, especially in the admission process, is a policy decision. The MBBS admission exam was conducted in line with existing laws and rules, but it will still go through scrutiny."

He also addressed concerns about the age of some applicants, saying,

"Out of the 193 candidates, it would be quite unusual for anyone aged 67 or 68 to still have children. If there are any mistakes, they will be corrected. The decision on whether the Freedom Fighter Quota will remain in the MBBS admission process is not up to the Health Ministry; it is a state decision. This will be reviewed on January 27, 28, and 29."
