BNP to hold parliamentary party meeting on Wednesday

A parliamentary party meeting of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. The session will begin at 11 a.m. in the BNP’s dedicated meeting room within the parliament complex, with the Leader of the House presiding over the discussions, according to a press statement from the National Parliament Secretariat.

Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni has requested the attendance of all BNP Members of Parliament. The gathering is expected to focus on the party’s legislative priorities and internal strategies as the 13th National Parliament begins its first session on March 12.

This meeting follows BNP’s landslide victory in the parliamentary election held on February 12, conducted in a peaceful and festive atmosphere across the country. On February 17, the first meeting of the BNP parliamentary party unanimously elected party chairman Tarique Rahman as the head of the 13th parliament.

Results for two seats in the 300-seat parliament remain pending, while voting in one constituency was suspended due to the death of a candidate. Of the remaining 297 seats:

  • BNP: 209
  • Jamaat-e-Islami: 68
  • National Citizen Party (NCP): 6
  • Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis: 2
  • Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Gono Adhikar Parishad, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), Gana Sanghati Andolan, Khelafat Majlis: 1 each
  • Independent candidates: 7

Security and logistical arrangements are being finalized at the parliament building to accommodate the high-profile assembly of lawmakers.
