The Ministry of Education has announced the temporary closure of English medium schools that follow foreign curricula, along with all coaching centres, during Ramadan to reduce public congestion, according to a press release.
The decision was taken on 8 March at a meeting of the Secondary and Higher Education Division in Dhaka, chaired by Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon.
Officials said the move followed discussions with representatives of English medium schools, considering the current global situation and aiming to ease congestion in Dhaka and other cities during the holy month. Several decisions were made unanimously.
As per the press release, all English medium schools will suspend classes from 9 March until the government-declared Eid-ul-Fitr holiday. Only mandatory examinations scheduled in advance will be conducted.
During the same period, all coaching centres, including both Bangla and English medium, will remain closed.
