Draft voter list released, total voter count reaches 12 crore 36 lakhs.

The Election Commission (EC) of Bangladesh has just released the draft voter list for the upcoming elections. 

The announcement came on Thursday, January 2, under the supervision of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin.

According to this latest data, the country now has 123,683,512 registered voters. 

The number of voters has increased by 1,833,352 since the last update, which means there’s been around a 1.5% rise in the total voter population.

Breaking down the numbers, there are 63,330,103 male voters and 60,352,415 female voters. In addition, 994 individuals have been registered as third-gender voters.

The EC also stated that the final voter list will be published on March 2. People still have time to submit any claims or objections about the voter list until January 17. 

Hearings and decisions on these claims will be completed by January 30.

Just last year, the voter list released on March 2, 2024, recorded a total of 121,850,160 voters. 

At that time, the list included 62,144,587 male voters, 59,704,641 female voters, and 932 third-gender voters.

The voter count continues to rise, showing an increase in civic participation as the nation heads towards its next election.
