Nahid Islam, Convenor of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has declared that his party will not participate in any elections unless the July Charter is implemented.

He made the statement on Thursday while speaking to reporters after paying respects at the grave of “July Martyr” Sazzad Hossain in Hatikhana Cemetery, located in Syedpur upazila of Nilphamari.

“Our journey of July March is aimed at rebuilding the nation,” Nahid said. “The movement, which began in the northern region, is receiving a strong response from the people. Very soon, we will expand this campaign across the entire country. Development should not be Dhaka-centric. It must be inclusive and nationwide.”

He added, “Although the fall of the fascist regime was achieved through the people’s movement, the mafia system still remains. We must preserve the legacy of our struggle.”

Accompanying Nahid Islam were NCP’s chief organizer for the southern region, Hasnat Abdullah; northern region chief organizer, Sarjis Alam; senior joint convenor, Samanta Sharmin; senior joint member secretary, Tasnim Jara; and the father of martyr Sazzad Hossain, Md. Alamgir. The prayer at the grave was led by Nahid himself.

Earlier in the day, the July March reached Syedpur, where NCP’s Nilphamari district convenor Mohammad Abdul Majid and local leader Tanzimul Alam, among others, welcomed the party delegation in front of the Railway Officers’ Club. The procession later departed Syedpur for Nilphamari town as part of its ongoing journey.
