Over 1,000 hospitalized with dengue in first three days of July

In just the first three days of July, a total of 1,160 people have been hospitalized across Bangladesh due to dengue fever, while three fatalities have been reported.

In the past 24 hours alone, 358 new cases have been recorded, with one additional death. Of the new cases, 150 were reported from outside the city corporation areas in the Barisal division.

According to data released on Thursday by the Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total number of dengue-related hospitalizations in 2024 has now reached 11,456. The death toll from the mosquito-borne virus stands at 45 so far this year.

Currently, 1,329 dengue patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals across the country. Of these, 351 are receiving care in Dhaka, while the remaining 978 are admitted to hospitals in other divisions.

Monthly data from the DGHS show that 1,161 people were hospitalized in January, 374 in February, 336 in March, 701 in April, and 1,773 in May.

The corresponding death tolls for these months are: January – 10, February – 3, April – 7, and May – 3.

Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, especially as dengue outbreaks tend to intensify during the monsoon season.

Public health experts are urging residents to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and seek immediate medical attention if dengue symptoms appear.
