Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan, who was terminated as deputy attorney general on September 7, announced today that he was seeking refuge with his family at the US embassy in Dhaka.
He informed The Daily Star of this through a text message this afternoon.
"I am at the American embassy, along with my whole family, for shelter. There are police personnel outside. I was sacked today … Over the last four-five days, I was being threatened on my Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. This government repays love with imprisonment. I don`t have a US visa; I somehow managed to leave home with just three bags and my three daughters, and am sitting here. Pray for us," read the text message.
On September 4, DAG Imran told reporters that he had declined to sign a statement prepared by the attorney general`s office in response to a recent letter from global personalities about Nobel Laureate Prof Yunus`s prosecution procedures.
On the same day, the attorney general`s office issued a notification requesting that all of its law officers seek authorization from the AG before making any public statements.
Earlier today, while answering reporters` questions at Brahmanbaria`s Akhaura Junction Railway Station, the law minister said that Imran Ahmed Bhuiyan had been sacked.
