Govt mulls administering booster dose: Expat minister

Booster dose will be administered in Bangladesh like other developed nations around the world. Saudi Arabia-bound expatriate workers will get the jab foremost, said expatriate welfare minister Imran Ahmed.

As many as 30 thousand Bangladesh workers failed to return to Saudi Arabia due to the conditions given by the government over receiving the Sinopharm vaccine.

However, the KSA authorities recently said, receivers of Chines Sinopharm and Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines will be allowed to enter the country. The conditions further include inoculation of a booster dose in line with the list placed by the kingdom.

The expatriate minister came up with the declaration on Friday considering the entrance of overseas workers.

“Many Bangladeshi nationals working in Saudi Arabia have been stuck in the country due to vaccination complicacy. The decision has been taken regarding providing them booster shots. They will be given the doses at seven centers like before. However, the ICT ministry will have to ensure that they will issue certificates with appropriate references,” Imran Ahmad said.

Besides, the minister also said, steps would be taken to install rapid PCR tests for expatriate workers in Sylhet and Chattogram airports.
