Jamalpur journo dies being attacked by UP chairman‍‍`s followers

A journalist named Golam Rabbani Nadeem, who was critically injured in an attack by miscreants at Pathati area in Bakshiganj of Jamalpur on Wednesday night, died at a Mymensingh hospital on Thursday.

A local correspondent for Banglanews24.com and Ekattor Television, Nadeem breathed his last around 2:30pm, said Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam, in-charge of the police camp of the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).

Nadeem‍‍`s family alleged that Sadhurpara union parishad Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu‍‍`s followers attacked the journalist.

According to locals and Nadeem‍‍`s colleagues, some miscreants attacked Nadeem in the Pathati area on his way back home after work on Wednesday, leaving him unconscious. The attackers immediately ran away.

At that time, the locals rescued him to Bakshiganj Upazila Health Complex, from where he was admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital for better treatment at 12 noon.

When his condition deteriorated, Nadeem was taken to the MMCH on Thursday morning.

His wife Monira Begum said that Sadhurpara union parishad Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu‍‍`s men attacked Nadeem and seriously injured him. She demanded exemplary punishment for this incident.

Jamalpur Superintendent of Police Nasir Uddin Ahmed said the police had identified the attackers from CCTV camera footage and already detained three of them.
