As many as 40.04 lakh cases are pending with different courts across the country, said Law Minister Anisul Huq.
His comment came in response to a query from Jatiya Party lawmaker Syed Abu Hossain at the House on Wednesday.
Among the total cases, there are 16.47 lakh civil cases, 24.10 lakh criminal cases and 1.18 lakh other cases, the minister said, adding, the government has taken initiatives for speedy settlement of pending cases.
Increasing the number of judges, creation of new courts, development of court infrastructure, creation of new courts, alternative dispute resolution and training of judges at home and abroad has resulted in significant success in quick disposal of pending cases.
