A group of candidates who had their appointments for the assistant teacher position at government primary schools canceled by the High Court gathered at Shahbagh on Sunday morning, calling for justice and the swift reinstatement of their positions.
The rally began around 9:30 AM in front of the National Museum, with many candidates arriving throughout the morning.
Faisal Ahmed, one of the protesters, shared, “We are holding a large rally today, and we’ve given an ultimatum until 12 PM. After that, we will announce our next steps.”
Rashed Shahriar, who came all the way from Lakshmipur, said, “The court canceled our appointments on February 6. Since then, we have organized several protests, but no government official has approached us. We’ve been peacefully protesting here for days, but no authority has reassured us that our jobs will be reinstated. The government hasn’t even appealed the court’s decision. That’s why we’re holding this rally today.”
Samia Yasmin another protester also spoke up, saying, "We’re organizing this rally to demand four things, including a safe return to our homes and justice for the wrongs done to us. Our next steps will be announced from here."
Kobita Akter, who came from Madaripur, added, "Today is the 11th day we’ve been protesting here. Our movement is ongoing. We’re calling for this rally to regain our rights. From here, we want the government to know that our rights were taken away unjustly.”
The protesters continue to demand that the government address their concerns and restore the appointments that were taken away following the court’s decision.
