In a powerful address at a public rally in Lakshmipur, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, warned the interim government that if they do not release Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam by the 25th of this month, 30 million Jamaat leaders and activists will be ready to face imprisonment.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made this statement while speaking as the chief guest at a rally held at Adorsho Samad Government High School grounds in Lakshmipur.
The event took place on Saturday at around 11:30 a.m. and was attended by a large crowd of Jamaat supporters.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rahman stressed, “Members of any Islamic party are never involved in crimes like extortion, land-grabbing, or oppression because they fear Allah.”
He reiterated the values that guide his party and emphasized their commitment to justice and morality.
He also paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the youth, particularly during Bangladesh’s struggle for independence.
“The youth of today have shown us what true sacrifice is. It was the blood of students and the people that led to our second independence. We owe our freedom to those who sacrificed their lives for it, and we salute them. It is our duty to protect this freedom,” he said.
Reflecting on the painful events of July and August, Dr. Rahman added, “I reject politics that forces people to flee the country. In July and August, young people laid down their lives to help our country achieve freedom. We envision Bangladesh as a country based on humanity. The future of Bangladesh must be entrusted to the youth. Despite 53 years of independence, the people of this country have not yet been liberated. They long for freedom through the implementation of Allah`s law. Jamaat-e-Islami is working towards that goal for the liberation of the people.”
The rally was chaired by Master Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan, the district Jamaat Amir, with Secretary Faruk Hossain Nurnobi and Assistant Secretary Advocate Mohsin Kabir Murad handling the event`s proceedings.
This rally marked a significant moment as it was the first Jamaat public gathering in Lakshmipur in 28 years.
Supporters arrived in large numbers, marching in processions throughout the day.
By the time the rally began, the field was packed to its capacity, showing the high level of participation and enthusiasm from Jamaat members.
