RAB-2 arrested Talat Mahmud Sayen (29), the top leader of the banned militant organization 'Hizb ut-Tahrir', in Hazaribagh area of the capital.
On Sunday (April 9) morning, Captain of RAB-2, Additional DIG, Md. Anwar Hossain Khan, confirmed the matter to the media. Sayen was arrested on Saturday (April, 8) afternoon.
Md. Anwar said, "Talat Mahmud Sayen, who was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment, is the top leader of the organization and one of the members of Dawati section in the organization. During the arrest, anti-government leaflets, extremist books, computers and multiple mobile phones were seized from him."
He also said that the banned militant organization 'Hizb ut -Tahrir' was encouraging young generation and general public to join militancy by distributing militant leaflets and posters to promote the organizational activities of the banned militant organization 'Hizb ut-Tahrir' in different parts of the country.
Talat Mahmud Sayen was arrested in 2015 for antigovernmental activities. After being released on bail, he went into hiding and continued the activities of the militant organization for a long time. A case under the Anti-Terrorism Act is also pending against him. In that case, the court sentenced him to 2 years rigorous imprisonment. He was absconding when the court announced its verdict.
After being arrested in 2015 and serving 1 year in jail in a case, Sayen was released on bail and went to Malaysia in 2016 to hide himself from the law enforcement agencies. After staying in Malaysia for 2 years, he returned to the country in 2018 and again became active in the organization of 'Hizb ut-Tahrir'. He is the top leader of the currently banned militant organization.
The Additional DIG of RAB also said that action is under process against the arrested accused.
