Tension reached new heights at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) today as violent clashes erupted between general students and members of the Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the BNP.

The confrontation, which began at around 3 PM, continues to unfold, with reports confirming at least 15 people have been injured so far.

Earlier in the day, a large group of students gathered to protest against the increasing presence of politics on campus.

Their concerns ranged from incidents of student beatings to microphones being seized.

The students, frustrated by these actions, demanded a complete ban on political activities at the university.

The situation took a turn for the worse when general students chased away Chhatra Dal activists during the protest.

A portion of the student body then staged a sit-in outside the Vice-Chancellor‍‍`s residence, continuing to push their demands for a cleaner campus free of political influence.

The situation turned violent when Chhatra Dal members returned to the campus in the afternoon, triggering a clash with the protesters.

According to Mujahid, a student at KUET, the violence stems from Chhatra Dal‍‍`s efforts to introduce politics back into the university, alongside their provocations and assaults on general students.

Mujahid mentioned that their demands included the permanent expulsion of at least 18 individuals linked to the political violence and the official cancellation of their student status.

The protesters are also calling for a complete ban on student politics at KUET, with the demand that this regulation be officially incorporated into the university‍‍`s ordinances.

Furthermore, they want faculty and staff who have supported the re-entry of politics into campus life to face punishment.

As a safety measure, the students are requesting the installation of CCTV cameras throughout the campus.

With tensions running high, students have given the university administration until 5 PM to meet their demands.

If the demands are not met, further action will likely follow.

Khulna Metropolitan Police‍‍`s Additional Police Commissioner (South), Nazmul Hasan Rajib, confirmed that law enforcement is actively working to control the situation and bring peace back to the campus.

In response to the violent clashes at KUET, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has called for a protest march and rally at Dhaka University this evening, showing solidarity with the KUET students and condemning the violence.

This situation remains fluid, and it’s clear that the students of KUET are determined to bring change to their campus.
