Last year, in connection with the assaults during the student movement in July, over 417 students have been expelled from Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University.
The Dhaka University administration stated that 128 students have been temporarily expelled for their involvement in the assaults during the July mass uprising.
The expulsion was implemented based on the decisions made during the university`s syndicate meeting.
According to the investigation committee`s report, these students were directly involved in attacks on the protesters, and most of them were affiliated with the banned student organization, Chhatra League.
The university administration also informed that these 128 students were involved in attacks on protesters between July 15 and August 5.
Among the 128 expelled, two were students of Jagannath University.
289 Expelled from Jahangirnagar
Meanwhile, 289 Chhatra League leaders and activists have been temporarily expelled from Jahangirnagar University for their involvement in assaults during the anti-discrimination student movement.
In the same incident, 9 teachers have been suspended for their involvement.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, said that the degrees of students whose academic terms have ended but were involved in the assaults will be withheld.
The results of those whose exams and viva have been completed will be suspended, and regular students will be temporarily expelled.
Additionally, investigations are ongoing against 10 more teachers accused of being involved in the attacks carried out by Chhatra League and the police during the movement.
To gather concrete evidence against them, six faculty-based structural committees have been formed.
The university administration further informed that harsher measures could be taken against the accused based on the final report of the investigation committee.
