Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was taken out safe after an explosion at a western port on Saturday, and a suspect was perceived for allegedly throwing the explosive, NHK television reports.
Kishida was visiting in Wakayama prefecture`s Saikazaki port to support his ruling party`s candidate in a local election. According to NHK, the explosion happened just as he was about to make his speech. There were no injuries reported in the event, and Kishida was transferred to the Wakayama prefectural police headquarters.
A man considered of being a suspect was arrested at the spot on Saturday. According to a NHK footage, many uniformed and plainclothes police officers crowded around the man, shoving him to the ground and pulling him to the side. The culprit, who has been identified as a young male, allegedly threw the explosive.
The incident on Saturday occurred few days before local elections around the country, including a by-election for a vacant seat in the lower house of the Parliament, with voting scheduled for April 23
