Kuwait introduces AI news presenter

An AI-generated news presenter named Fedha was recently unveiled by Kuwait News, a Kuwaiti media outlet. The statement was made on the verified Twitter account for Kuwait News, where a virtual news presenter could be seen speaking in traditional Arabic.

Fedha said, "I'm Fedha, the first presenter in Kuwait who uses artificial intelligence at Kuwait News," when translated into English. What sort of news do you like to read? Let's hear what you think.

According to AFP, Kuwait News is affiliated with Kuwait Times, the Gulf region's first English daily launched in 1961. As per AFP, Abdullah Boftain, deputy editor-in-chief for both outlets, said the move is a test of AI's potential to offer "new and innovative content".

Boftain stated that they plan to make Fedha use the local Kuwaiti accent when reading news bulletins on their Twitter account, which currently has 1.2 million followers.

Fedha is a prehistoric Kuwaiti name that means "silver," according to Boftain. According to his comments to AFP, the deputy editor-in-chief further explained that the media portal blended the two meanings in the name "Fedha" because robots are frequently depicted as metallic or silver in color.
