At least seven people have lost their lives in clashes across Dhaka`s Uttara, Badda, and Savar bus stand areas during today`s quota reform protests. The total number of individuals killed has now reached 19 since Tuesday.
As part of the pre-announced complete shutdown program, the anti-quota activists clashed with the police when they tried to block the road in the Uttara-Ajampur area. Four people, including students and pedestrians, were killed in the firing.
Their bodies have been kept at Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Govt. Hospital. At the same time, more than a hundred injured people came to the hospital for treatment.
Superintendent of hospital Mizanur Rahman confirmed this information on Thursday (July 18) afternoon.
One of the deceased was identified as Asif, a fourth-semester student of the English Department at Northern University, as confirmed by a professor.
Another was a former student of Islamic University of Technology (IUT), who went to Uttara for a banking elated task.
Demonstrators lit fire to Uttara East Police Station, according to media report.
Meanwhile, in Badda and Rampura, another casualty was reported. The victim, Dulal Matbor, a Hiace driver passing through the area, succumbed to injuries at Farazy Hospital, stated Rubel Hossain, the hospital`s deputy general manager, who noted that hundreds have sought treatment there.
In Savar, a student Shaikh Ashabul Yamin from the Military Institute of Science and Technology died during clashes at the bus stand area.
Yousuf Ali, duty manager at Enam Medical College and Hospital, confirmed the student`s death, reporting that he had been shot with pellets after climbing atop a police APC van.
Moreover, a student of Dhaka Residential Model College was killed during a clash between quota protestors and police along with Jubo league men in Dhaka`s Dhanmondi area today. The deceased was identified as Farhan Faiyaaz, 17.
Two each students also killed in clashes in Chattogram and Narsingdi during quota protest on Thursday.
However, six people were killed in Tuesday amid the clashes centering quota movement.
