The Awami League has announced a rally at Zero Point in Dhaka to demand the return of democracy, while the interim government has made it clear that any attempts to disturb the peace will be dealt with firmly.
In a post on their official Facebook page, the Awami League invited its supporters, along with the general public, to gather at Zero Point in Gulistan, Dhaka, on Sunday, November 10.
The rally is meant to protest against what the party describes as the government`s violation of people`s rights, the growing influence of extremist groups, and efforts to disrupt the everyday lives of citizens.
Following the Awami League`s announcement, Shafiqul Alam, the Press Secretary for the Chief Advisor of the interim government, responded with a warning.
He said that any attempts to disturb public order would not be tolerated and would be met with a strong response. He shared this message on his own verified Facebook page.
The Awami League`s post reads: "Join us on November 10 at Nur Hossain Square, Zero Point, in Dhaka.
Our protest is against the violation of people`s rights, the rise of extremist forces, and efforts to harm the lives of ordinary people. Stand with us to oppose corruption and bad governance."
In his response, Shafiqul Alam criticized the Awami League, calling it a "fascist" party.
He also said there is no room for protests under the current government and warned that any attempts to hold rallies or protests would be forcefully stopped by law enforcement.
He added that the interim government would not allow any action that could disturb the country’s law and order.
The situation reflects the growing tension between the ruling party and opposition groups ahead of the upcoming elections.
