The roadmap for the 13th National Parliamentary Elections will be announced next week, according to Election Commission (EC) Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, the EC official said discussions on the roadmap have been completed and it will be made public in the coming week. However, details regarding the approach and format of the roadmap will be disclosed later.
Regarding voting rights for expatriates, the Senior Secretary said further discussions are required before any decision is communicated to the media.
He also revealed that the commission has so far received 318 applications from election observation groups, which are currently under review.
Earlier in the day, the EC held a meeting to discuss various election-related issues. After the meeting, a senior leader of a major political party told reporters that they seek free, fair, and constitutional elections in the future, and expressed confidence in the current government’s ability to ensure credible voting.
The leader also criticized the recent appointment of an acting party chairman, calling it unlawful.
