Carlo Ancelotti made history on Wednesday by becoming the most successful manager in Real Madrid’s long and proud history, as his team defeated Pachuca 3-0 in the Intercontinental Cup final in Qatar.
This win gave Ancelotti his 15th trophy with Madrid, surpassing the previous record set by legendary coach Miguel Muñoz.
Real Madrid was in control throughout the match, and the Italian coach was joyful after the game.
"There are so many of them (titles)! I`m delighted, really happy... it`s a success story," Ancelotti said with a smile while giving an interview to Spanish TV channel Telecinco.
Reflecting on the match, he praised his players, especially the attacking trio who helped seal the victory.
"Today I really liked the attitude from the players. Up front, they made the difference, Vinicius Jr had a great game. Offensively we did well. We have a lot of quality. Kylian (Mbappe) had a good game, Rodrygo scored the second... We are thrilled because we won a title far from home and in the middle of a busy season."
The victory is yet another chapter in Ancelotti’s extraordinary career. When he returned to Real Madrid three years ago, taking over after Zinedine Zidane, he knew the expectations were high.
His mission was simple, win more trophies for one of the world’s most successful football clubs. Since then, he has not disappointed.
England, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France are the five best football leagues in Europe, and Ancelotti is the only manager to win league titles in each of those countries.
In the last three seasons, he has led Madrid to two Champions League and La Liga doubles, making his performance there particularly noteworthy.
Real Madrid has won three Champions League titles, two Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, two La Liga crowns, two Spanish Cups (Copa del Rey), two Spanish Super Cups, and now the Intercontinental Cup under Ancelotti.
Madrid`s iconic status is further cemented by their most recent triumph in the Intercontinental Cup, a reconstructed version of the competition that had existed until 2004.
With Kylian Mbappe opening the score, Rodrygo adding a second, and Vinicius Junior completing the victory with a late penalty, the team once again demonstrated their supremacy on the global stage.
The world is constantly reminded of why Real Madrid is regarded as the ruler of this sport by their dominance under Ancelotti.
Ancelotti has cemented his status as the greatest manager in the club`s history with this 15th trophy, and Madrid`s quest for trophies is far from over.
