Manchester City assistant manager Pep Lijnders has suggested that Bernardo Silva could be nearing the end of his time at the club, with his contract set to expire this season.
Speaking after City’s FA Cup win over Liverpool, Lijnders hinted that Silva’s long stay may not continue, saying every successful journey eventually comes to an end.
The 31-year-old midfielder, who joined the club in 2017, has not yet agreed to a new deal and has been linked with moves to top European clubs as well as teams in the United States.
Lijnders praised Silva’s role in the squad, describing him as a unique player who is difficult to replace due to his playing style, leadership and ability to control matches.
Silva recently reached a major milestone, making his 450th appearance for Manchester City and adding another trophy to his collection following their Carabao Cup win.
Manager Pep Guardiola has long trusted Silva, even handing him the captain’s role after Kevin De Bruyne’s departure last season.
Looking ahead, Lijnders said the club is focusing on developing young talent and building a balanced squad rather than directly replacing any single player.
Reports suggest City are already planning for the future, with interest in Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson as part of their long-term strategy.
With only weeks left in the season, Silva’s future remains uncertain as the club prepares for possible changes in the squad.
