Renowned littérateur Hasan Azizul Haq dies

Renowned littérateur Hasan Azizul Haq has passed away in his residence in Rajshahi at 9 pm on Monday.

He was undergoing treatment at home since the past one month.

Sazzad Bokul, Assistant Professor of the department of Mass Communication and Journalism confirmed the matter of his death citing his son.

He said Hasan Azizul Haque had been suffering from prolonged illness and breathed his last at 9:15 pm. 

Earlier, on August 21, he was brought to Dhaka with an air ambulance for advanced treatment. 

After receiving treatment at Sheikh Mujib Medical College and Hospital, he was taken back to Rajshahi on September 9 as the condition of his health improved. 

Hasan Azizul Haque was born on 2 February 1939 in Jabgram, Burdwan district in present day West Bengal, India. He spent most of his life in Rajshahi. 

In 1983, he joined Rajshahi University as a Professor in the Department of Philosophy. He taught at this university for 31 years till 2004.

Winner of the highest civilian awards, Swadhinata Padak and Ekushey Padak, the writer was honoured with Ananda Puroshkar in West Bengal.

Among his works, storybooks ‘Samudrer Swapna Sheeter Aranya, ‘Atmoja O Ekti Karobi Gachh’ and ‘Jibon Ghoshe Agun’, and novels ‘Brittayon’, ‘Agunpakhi’ and ‘Shiuli’ are notable.
