Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has launched the distribution of “Farmer Cards” among farmers on the occasion of Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year 1433.
Earlier on Tuesday morning at around 9:00 AM, he departed from his residence in Gulshan. Later on Pahela Baishakh, he formally inaugurated the programme at Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Tangail during an event held in Sadar Upazila.
The “Farmer Card” is considered one of the key election pledges of the BNP. Prior to this, the government had already introduced programs such as the Family Card, Sports Card, and a canal excavation initiative in line with its commitments.
Agriculture Minister Amin Ur Rashid said that, initially, the program will be implemented on a pre-pilot basis in 11 agricultural blocks across the country. A total of 20,671 landless, marginal, and small-scale farmers will receive the “Farmer Card.”
He added that beneficiaries will receive an annual cash support of 2,500 taka through the card.
