BRTC buses will start plying on Dhaka Elevated Expressway from Monday. Initially BRTC is going to start this operation with 8 buses.
BRTC chairman Tajul Islam told the media that BRTC is the first local bus service that is going to run on the elevated expressway, so those who do not have private cars can also get on the first elevated expressway in Dhaka.
Passengers do not have to pay extra fare for this. By paying normal transportation fare, they will be able to reach their destination faster.
He also said that after dropping passengers at Farmgate, they will pick up passengers heading towards the airport at Bangabandhu Chattor in Khejur Bagan area of Sangsad Bhaban adjacent to Manik Mia Avenue. For that Uttara passengers can board from Khejur Bagan, Khamarbari or Bijoy Shoroni.
Tajul Islam said that the fare for 15 kilometers from Khejur Bagan to the airport is Tk 35. And the fare for 17 km up to Jashimuddin has been fixed at Tk 40. The fare is 2.54 tk per kilometer. Due to e-ticketing system, there is no opportunity to charge more fare.
He also said that for the time being, tolls are not being added to the fare. Later, bus will run by the fare which will be added to the toll fixed by the government. As, the aim is to serve government agencies and people. He said that if public transport runs on the elevated expressway, passengers will take less time to reach their destination. But the only disadvantage is that passengers cannot get down and ride on the bus in middle of the road.
