Election management in the country has collapsed: Sakhawat

Former Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain said that the election management of the country has completely collapsed. He said voters were disappointed with the performance of the Election Commission (EC) in the two previous elections.

He was speaking to reporters after attending a seminar on "Anglo-American Campaign and the Taliban in Afghanistan" at the IQAC auditorium of the People's University in Savar on Monday (October 11).

He said, "The current election commissioners have admitted the voting syste has collapsed." Mahbub Talukder has exclaimed this in public. Others have said that the election in the country should not be held in the way it was held in my union. The Chief Election Commissioner has expressed pessimism several times saying - what should I do? It is not my job to bring voters.

He further said, "No country would declare that their election was 100 percent free and fair. If the citizens of a country think that 70 percent of the votes have been cast by them voluntarily, we call it a fair election.
