Suspended police Inspector Liakat shot retired Major Sinha Mohammed Rashed Khan after his car was stopped at the check post.
But, Major Sinha was still alive.
Another suspended official and former Officer in Charge of Cox’s Bazar Pradeep Kumar strangled Sinha and confirmed his death.
Eyewitness ahidul Islam Sifat said this to the court while recording testimonies in sensational Sinha killing case.
Earlier on the day, the recording of witnesses' statements resumed at Cox’s Bazar District and Session Judge court on Tuesday (August 24).
“Police official Liakat Ali stopped Sinha’s car at Baharchara check post around 9 pm on the night. No sooner had he (Sinha) got out of the car holding his hands up, Liakat opened fire. Sinha fell on the ground and was alive for a long time. OC Pradeep kicked the left of his (Sinha) chest and strangulated Sinha with his (Pradeep) boot,” witness Sahidul Islam Sifat told the court.
The defence lawyers questioned the plaintiff of the case and one of the witnesses Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous as the recording of testimonies resumed on the second day.
Earlier on Monday, the prosecution asked Sharmin Shahriar. Court adjorned the proceedings around 4:15 pm.
On June 27, judge Mohammed Ismail framed the charge. The accused were present in the court. The Cox’s Bazar court also fixed July 26, 27 and 28 to record testimonies of 10 eyewitnesses including the plaintiff.
Court sources said, among the 83 witnesses, testimonies of 15 will give their statements this phase. All 15 accused are in the district custody.
Retired Major Sinha was shot dead while he was checked at a police check post on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf marine drive on July 31, 2020.
